Designed by Vita Nova Interiors, this project delivers a well-balanced shaker kitchen that feels considered, practical, and visually cohesive. The space is built around natural light, a soft colour palette, and carefully selected finishes that support both everyday use and entertaining.

The Monmouth handle in Brushed Iron was specified to introduce subtle elegance into the cabinetry while maintaining a refined, timeless aesthetic. Its gently curved profile adds a tactile, user-focused detail without overpowering the scheme.

A Softer Rhythm to Shaker

While the project follows a traditional shaker structure, the overall execution feels more contemporary and relaxed. Clean lines are retained, but softened through considered detailing and the refined shape of the hardware.

The Monmouth handle contributes to this by introducing a gentle curvature that offsets the linearity of the cabinetry. This creates a more dynamic visual rhythm across the kitchen, subtly breaking up repetition and adding interest to both the island and perimeter units.

Working with Brushed Iron

In a scheme built around a green island and off-white cabinetry, the choice of hardware needed to be versatile. The Brushed Iron finish works harmoniously across both tones, providing a consistent, understated elegance. Its neutral appearance ensures it complements the palette rather than dominating it, making the handle suitable for both contemporary and traditional shaker designs.

Designed for Everyday Use

As with any kitchen project, usability is key. The island acts as the main working and social area, meaning the hardware is used frequently throughout the day.

The Monmouth handle provides a comfortable grip and consistent feel across drawers and cupboards, supporting practical requirements while maintaining design integrity. Its carefully considered shape ensures it is ergonomic and inviting to use.

Responding to Light Use

Natural light plays an important role in how the kitchen is experienced. The Brushed Iron finish subtly reflects light, appearing slightly different depending on the time of day and lighting conditions. In the morning, the handles catch the softer daylight, while ambient or under-cabinet lighting in the evening introduces a gentle glow, enhancing the nuanced curves of the handle. This creates a dynamic and tactile visual experience that complements the kitchen’s overall design.

A Considered Outcome

We absolutely love how the Monmouth has been carried across the entire kitchen, tying together the different elements without overpowering the scheme.

As Vita Nova Interiors describes:

“Soft natural light, elegant finishes and carefully chosen textures come together to create a space that feels both luxurious and welcoming — perfectly tailored for everyday living and entertaining.”

The smallest details often have the greatest influence on a space. A handle is touched daily and seen at close range, becoming far more than a functional element — it becomes part of the atmosphere.
